From the studio…

“On Earth as in Heaven” was created to display in the Ministry of Art, a pop-up art gallery at christian music festival, Festival One.

Constructed from recycled PET plastic, New Zealand Merino wool fibre, curly mohair locks, cotton thread and porcelain, materiality is key to this piece. I have long been interested in our attitudes to resources and the ways that we use them.

If plastic represents mankind’s ill-considered use of resources, then perhaps this recycled material is representative of it’s redemption. Each tube reaches down, wrapped in a protective layer of soft, natural fibres, and encircling a pair of high fired porcelain chimes. Each one a trinity of materials, stimulating visually, tactually and audibly.

Play the video to hear the chimes (excuse the background noise - it’s a festival!)
